Tele-Therapy and TEXT

Tele-therapy is a fast growing mode of receiving and integrating therapy into the very places you end up practicing these skills anyway. Whether you are trying to accommodate a busy lifestyle, bring more people into session comfortably, or find a way to take the skills and make them work within your walls...THIS is the way to go. Tele-therapy is HIPPA compliant, meaning your confidentiality is totally covered. Clients of all ages use tele-therapy and have found it very easy to navigate. We can schedule appointments just like any other, and trade forms and handouts via email. Since I am licensed in multiple states, I am always accepting new tele-therapy clients...and hey, most of us are looking at our phones or computers all day anyway- may as well be with your therapist!

For $50 a week you can also have access to THERA-TEXT. As an even cheaper alternative to traditional therapy, THERA-TEXT is often a great option for teens or people that find social anxiety to be pervasive. If you plan to use your insurance to pay for therapy, it’s best to check with your insurance provider first to see whether they’ll cover text therapy, or offer at least partial reimbursement. Keep in mind, though, that if you have a Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA), you may be able to use it to pay for text therapy.

Christian Counseling

Though I identify as a Christian, my personal faith and journey are are going to look exactly the same as another's. I like to keep a very open mind about what it is my client is going through and how their perspective of religion or spirituality has influenced their life.

I have worked with people of all sorts of religious, spiritual, and cultural backgrounds, and I really encourage clients to share with me their thoughts and feelings about what it is that they've experienced- without fear of judgement or ulterior motives.

Couple's Counseling

The greatest thing about Marriage and Family Therapy is that as many people as necessary are welcome to come at anytime.  If you're looking for a haven to vent and call your space, this can be it; but, if you're looking for a place to learn to communicate and grow alongside your partner- it can be that place, too!

Many common issues that I've worked with include: infidelity, communication, finances, gender roles, financial issues, pornography addiction, divorce, and intimacy. I believe that culture and societal expectations play a huge role in how we see ourselves as part of a working couple, and at times, it can really seem difficult to tease out expectations we have of ourselves versus the expectations placed upon us by others leaving resentment and bitterness to brew. Therapy can help; whether its a listening ear or articles and tools for you to read- I have you covered.

Depression & Anxiety

The trouble with depression and anxiety is that they can appear to be very similar, unless you know what to look for. Even medications such as SSRI's will treat symptoms of either one, but they don't get to the root of the problem. While SSRI's manage the expression of symptoms, therapy can help to treat and uncover the cause of the issue. It helps to understand what the triggers are to these feelings and which behaviors actually feed into the feeling versus help you to cope.

While many people can experience both anxiety and depression at the same time, typical one is more predominant and often treatable with cognitive behavioral therapy and motivational interviewing. These styles of treatment allow the client to explore their thoughts and behaviors on their own terms, while still being able to note progress of managing or lessening symptoms through the use of an individualized treatment plan.

Common diagnoses that are often tied tied to issues of depression and/or anxiety include: substance abuse, anorexia/bulimia, anger management, obsessive compulsive disorder, bereavement, attachment...and so many more.

Parenting & Supervised Visits

As a parent, there are certain things that we experience daily that can be hard to understand if you haven't ever lived through something similar- the sleepless nights, endless worry, frustration, and guilt that somehow you could have done better... and as they say, "Children don't come with a manual." We wish. Therapy can be an excellent tool for helping you find ways to parent your child in more ways than you think. No one will quite be the expert on your child more than you, but sometimes it helps to just try something different for a change. Simple behavioral tweaks and suggestions, or improvements on communicating with your child can really change the dynamic from struggle to synchronicity.

WE NOW OFFER THERAPEUTIC SUPERVISED VISITS! WE ARE SPECIALLY TRAINED AND WORK WELL WITH THE COURT TO PROVIDE FEEDBACK AND NOTES FOR YOU TO GET THE MOST OUT OF VISITS WITH YOUR CHILD OF ANY AGE.

Grief & Loss

The DSM-IV set the limit of grief being something that only lasts for approximately 6 months. Anything more than that and it gets classified as depression. Having experienced a lot of grief and loss, I feel there is no timeline for bereavement. We were not designed to live in a bubble; we depend on feeling connected to one another and thus, it may take months, or years, if ever we find ways to move past it and cope with our new normal.

Often, people experience "survivor's guilt"- wishing it had been them instead of the loved one who died.  Other times, or even also, people begin to question their faith, or concept of life vs. death. This is something heavy, and a very common issue that you don't have to hide from. Most people wonder at some point- "What am doing here?" and sometimes, you may have the urge to work out these thoughts outloud.

Drug & Alcohol Counseling

This is a sensitive issue for the entire family, not just the person using. So many different dynamics come into play and the reality is that people suffering from addiction show much better progress when it gets seen as a family issue instead of someone struggling all alone. I have worked 4 years in substance abuse (Las Vegas, NV and in Wichita Falls, TX) and I have learned a lot about people's experiences, motivations, and struggles to stay clean. I view the issues as both a choice and a mental illness; every person's experience and level of addiction is different and thus, treatment should be individualized to their needs.

FIRST RESPONDER Family Counseling

THIS is my passion. There are so many unique things about being a military family. Many times I hear women say, "I think I've fallen out of love with my husband...I don't miss him anymore..." While it's possible, you must also consider the context of our lifestyle. We get accustomed to living alone from time to time; we (either partner) get used to making decisions without the immediate consult of the other. There is so much expected of us from this amorphous higher power that it can feel as if we've lost all say in our own lives.

I have worked with numerous veterans and their families to help them adjust to the unique issues the military inspires, and to help them cope with the ever changing adaptation required. Even if there is no extension of biological family, you have military family and changes within the system can be just as challenging, especially when your job expects you to constantly perform. Sure, there are chaplains and peer supports, but sometimes, you may may to talk to someone disconnected from the entire unit, who can ensure the confidentiality that your job will not be threatened by the information you disclose.
